Job Description


Werner Engineering was established in 1982 and now services the Construction, Mining, Sugar and Ports within the Bowen Basin and Queensland region.


Werner Engineering operates from a 2000sqm workshop located at Paget Mackay, which houses our Fabrication, Fitting and Machining operations. 


We are looking for a safety focused and motivated Machine Shop Supervisor, Fitter/Turner/Machinist and Trade Assistants to join our team. You will assist with day-to-day operations to ensure targets are met. 


SUPERVISOR: Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to: 



  • Supervise the workshop, including the allocation and completion of work in a timely manner with safety and quality inspections

  • Procure materials, consumables and equipment required to complete jobs

  • Monitor job costs and due dates to ensure that projects are completed on time

  • Adhere to Werner Engineering policies and procedures to ensure works are completed to or exceed Werner Engineering standard

  • Work with current and future clients to improve relationships and secure future works

  • Complete/assist with the development of budget estimates, quotes and tenders


What we are looking for:



  • Trade qualification fitting/turning with site and workshop experience preferable

  • Extensive machining and fitting knowledge

  • Estimating/tendering experience (desirable) 

  • Excellent communication, both oral and written

  • Problem solving skills

  • Proficient in the use of computer-based programs

  • Willingness and ability to adjust priorities at short notice to meet customer demands

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team

  • Able to meet deadlines

  • An unwavering commitment to safety and quality


FITTER/TURNER/MACHINIST: What we are looking for:



  • Able to complete precision type work as per trade requirements.

  • Proven jobbing type work experience

  • Ability to operate Manual and CNC lathes, CNC Borers and Milling machines

  • Consistently complete work in a timely manner

  • Accurately fill out job documentation as per QA requirements

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility in ensuring all safety, quality, and environmental practices and standards are effectively maintained at all times

  • Demonstrate Integrity through consistent values and behaviours

  • Effectively interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and machining requirements

  • Australian recognised Trade Certificate


TRADES ASSISTANT: What we are looking for:



  • Experienced in fabrication/Manufacturing workshops 

  • Forklift licence Required

  • Overhead Crane Competency Desirable 

  • Monday – Friday with potential for overtime
