Program Delivery and Support Officer (Tweed Heads)
24 hours per week fixed term – June 30, 2020
With potential for extension dependent on funding
Purpose of Position
The position holder is primarily responsible for the delivery of programs relating to the reduction of domestic violence and gender inequality. The Program Delivery and Support Officer would work collaboratively with other Men and Family Staff to deliver various programs where needed whilst also being responsible for representing the organisation at a sector level by attending inter-agency meetings.
The Men and Family Centre is an accredited provider of MBCPs. The position holder will be expected to meet or be willing to work toward meeting the requirements of practitioners in this field. Our MBCP meets the NSW Minimum Standards for MBCPs as mandated by the NSW Department of Attorney-General and Justice.
Training and extensive support will be offered for this position to suitably qualified and experienced individuals.
Organisational Relationships
The position holder reports directly to the Centre Manager and will receive professional support from them. The position holder will partake in regular specialist team clinical supervisions, and peer supervisions. The position holder will also have the opportunity for monthly one-to-one supervision with a qualified therapeutic practitioner of their choice.
The position holder is responsible for liaising with a number of external stakeholders and organisations both to represent and advocate for the Men and Family Centre’s programs and ethos.

The Men & Family Centre is a community-based non-government organisation which aims to support and cooperate with adults and children of all genders to create respectful relationships free from all forms of violence, abuse and inequality.
The Centre encourages the development of effective life skills and abilities that enhance self-responsibility and well-being.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
Work Performed
The position holder is primarily responsible for supporting two teams to deliver various programs/initiatives focussing on reducing domestic violence and gender inequality. In undertaking the above responsibilities, the position holder will liaise closely with Senior Clinicians, team members, the Centre Manager, the general public and other stakeholders.
The position holder attends regular clinical supervisions and attends team meetings with other team members (often at the Lismore office).
Challenges, Problem Solving and Decision Making
Typical challenges are:
- Delivering programs within a very limited funding base.
- Flexibility in responding to various operational challenges.
- Working with a team of professional facilitators with highly specialised knowledge.
This position is part-time. The position holder will need to monitor workplace priorities on a regular basis and liaise closely with the relevant manager as required. Time management and organising skills are key challenges.
The position holder has delegated decision making authority in relation to some client and program initiatives at Tweed Heads. The position holder is expected to solve a range of problems within organisational policy and procedural frameworks on a daily basis. Problem solving assistance is available within the team as required.
Guidance Given and Guidance Received
The position holder is responsible for setting their own work priorities in consultation with the manager. The position holder has access to regular supervision with an external Clinical Supervisors. The position holder has an annual performance appraisal and will be assisted to develop the necessary knowledge and skills by identifying training needs and formalising a learning and development agreement.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Delivery of phone-based or face-to-face client assessment, support and (depending on skill-set) therapeutic intervention in accordance with NSW Minimum Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MBCP).
- Provide advice to Senior Clinicians and Centre Manager in respect to provision and delivery of Tweed Heads service delivery.
- Perform other duties and activities consistent with the above as directed/negotiated with Senior Clinicians, Centre Manager and/or their delegate.
- Work as part of a small team, including contributing to client risk assessment meetings
- Liaise and communicate with communities of interest, service providers and key stakeholders, via a variety of forums, including but not limited to: local domestic violence inter-agency forums; Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Safety Action Meetings.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, social work, social science or related discipline
- Familiarity with NSW Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change Programs. Experience in group facilitation in the area of domestic violence prevention.
- Have highly developed skills in group work, including being skilled and confident in managing conflict, difficult group dynamics and difficult behaviour.
- Relevant skills in assessing individual client needs and providing appropriate therapeutic intervention
- Being skilled and knowledgeable in being able to identify and work against collusion and trivialisation of domestic violence, gender inequality and other intersectional inequalities in their own practice as well as in that of others.
- Experience in working constructively with agencies delivering services in the areas of domestic violence prevention.
- Team player with a diverse enough skill-set to enable the achievement of project outcomes as a member of a small team.
- Willingness, or capability, to co-facilitate men’s behaviour change groups.
- Current Drivers Licence
- Available to work on Thursdays
